How Much Does Tree Removal Cost in Tampa Bay? (2026 Pricing Guide)

A straight-talk pricing guide — no lowball hooks, no 'depends' answers. What tree removal actually costs in Tampa Bay in 2026, why, and what should scare you on a quote.

The most common question I get is 'roughly what will this cost?' — and the most common answer online is a useless range like '$200 to $2,000.' Here's a real one, from a Lutz-based owner-operator who has priced thousands of Tampa Bay trees. Ranges are 2026 dollars for licensed & insured service with full cleanup.

Ballpark ranges by tree size

  • Small tree, under 30 ft (palms, small ornamentals, small oaks): $250–$550.
  • Medium tree, 30–60 ft (typical mature laurel oak, small pine, medium palm): $550–$1,400.
  • Large tree, 60–90 ft (mature pine, medium live oak, tall queen palm cluster): $1,400–$3,200.
  • Very large / hazardous, 90 ft+ or requiring crane (mature live oak, large slash pine, oak over house): $3,200–$8,500+.
  • Multi-tree lot clearing: quoted by the day, typically $2,800–$5,500 per crew-day.

What actually drives price

  1. Access. A tree we can drop into an open pasture costs a fraction of the same tree rigged over a screen enclosure. Backyard access through a 4-foot gate can double the price of a front-yard tree.
  2. Height and diameter — but diameter matters more than height at the top of the range. A 60-ft oak with a 30-inch trunk removes for less than a 55-ft oak with a 40-inch trunk.
  3. Proximity to structures and power. Anything within striking distance of a house, pool cage, or service drop requires rigging instead of felling.
  4. Species. Water oaks and laurel oaks are heavy and brittle — riskier and slower than live oaks or pines of the same size.
  5. Crane vs. no crane. On the right tree, a crane cuts the labor day in half and lowers total cost even after the crane rental. On the wrong tree, it adds cost with no benefit.
  6. Debris volume and haul distance from your yard to the truck. This is often the single largest labor line on a big oak.
  7. Stump grinding, if included. Typically $2–$4 per inch of stump diameter, measured across the widest point at ground level.

When is a crane actually worth it?

Cranes make sense in three situations: the tree is too large or too compromised to climb safely, the drop zone is too small to rig conventionally, or the value of what's underneath (roof, pool cage, screened lanai) is high enough that removing the risk pays for the crane. In Tampa Bay backyards, that combination happens a lot. If a crane is the right call, we'll say so — and if it isn't, we'll say that too.

Three quote patterns that should scare you

What to ask every tree company before you sign

  • Are you licensed in Florida and can I see the certificate of insurance for general liability and workers' comp?
  • Is the estimate itemized — climbing, rigging, crane, debris, stump — or is it one lump sum?
  • Who is on the crew? Employees or day-labor subs?
  • How long has the same crew leader been running this equipment?
  • What's your cleanup standard? Chipped, hauled, and blown clean — or 'we'll leave the logs'?
