Odessa · Pasco County
Odessa properties tend to be big, wooded and full of native sabal palms mixed in with planted queens and Washingtonias around the house. We clean up the ones near structures and drives and leave the natural stands alone unless you want them shaped.
Sabal palms are Florida's state tree and they thrive here with no help at all. The reason to touch them is the boots: they hold moisture and host rats and roaches, and near a house that becomes your problem. Skinning the trunks of the palms within reach of the roofline is usually all that's needed.
A heavy dead frond skirt on a Washingtonia standing in dry pasture grass is a genuine fire risk during a dry spring. Clearing the skirt on palms near structures, fences and drives is cheap insurance.
We remove dead material, pods and boots and leave the green canopy. Stripping a palm to a pencil head weakens it and takes years to recover from.
